Description

This is the final in class drawing I did in Heads & Hands 2 and my favorite one. When I first used the pastels on this black paper I was hooked and never used the cotton reeves paper again. Unlike the cotton reeves the Artagain paper has a smooth surface and the pastels go on velvety and soft just the way I like them. This is mostly due to the fact that with pastels & charcoal I like to do a lot of the blending with my fingers. The tips of the fingers give the inconsistency of human flesh better and the oils of the hands help the pigments stay on the page better. But also I have discovered a great love for drawing on black paper.

Medium: Rembrandt soft pastel sticks on 18x24 black Strathmore Artagain paper
Class: Heads & Hands 2
Project: Class work
Completed: Dec. '06

I know very little about painting and pastels but I think that the way you did his skin his superb! It's quite striking when you stand from further away.
