Italian Underdress

Description

This is my current outfit I wear when going to events with my guild but in fact it is only the under dress for my new outfit. I haven’t made the new one because the color silk I need has been out of season for the last 3 years. The skirt is made of Periwinkle (my fav color) raw silk and trimmed in navy cotton velvet. The bodice is of the same fabric and lines with canvas and 5 pieces of spring steel boning. Though they are barely visible in the image there are 8 silver grommets on both sides and a have thick piece of the same type of boning to keep them from pulling out. The shirt is made of china silk and was given to me by my friend Christina who has a matching costume when she plays her own chamber maid.

With the exception of the shirt I made the whole costume even the patterns. The custom is also historically correct as well.

This is the custome i used as reference for these [link] [link]

Okay, for starters, lovely lines and fit on the bodice. Do you have any shots of the back? I'm a historic costuming buff, so that is the vein most of my questions, comments will be in. So what did you use for source material? What part of Italy and when is your character from? What sort of overdress are you looking to make to go with it? Are you planning on adding sleeves at some point? Are you wearing a corset underneath? I know the bodice is boned so it isn't necessary, but since it was laying so nicely I can't tell. Is the skirt cartridge pleated and basted to the bodice or are they two separate pieces? The cut actually reminds me quite a bit of Drea Leed's gathered kirtle pattern, is that the source you used or did you use another commercial or self drafted pattern?
